About

Cyclizar is a Pokémon appearing in the 2022 video game Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Like the game's legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon, Cyclizar is a lizard with what appear to be the beginnings of wheels growing out of its chest, leading to some theorizing that it could be a pre-evolution or alternate form of the legendaries. After Cyclizar was revealed in an August 2022 trailer for the game's battle system, it inspired a bevy of fan art and memes online.

Origin

Cyclizar first appeared in the August 21st, 2022, battle-focused trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (shown below). It will be a dual Dragon- and Normal-type Pokémon.

According to a tweet from the Pokémon Company,[5] It appears Cyclizar is common, and most people in the Paldea region use them similar to how one would use a bike.

Spread

As with other Pokémon revealed for Scarlet and Violet, fan art for Cyclizar appeared online almost immediately after the trailer introducing it concluded. For example, on August 21st, 2022, Twitter user @Crantime[1] posted art for Cyclizar that gained over 180 retweets and 960 likes in just over one day (shown below, left). The same day, Twitter user @startboii1[2] posted art of Misty from the Pokémon anime carrying Cyclizar, referencing a scene from the anime, gaining over 3,700 retweets and 21,000 likes (shown below, right).

Others made memes about the character's design following his August 2022 reveal. Also on August 21st, Twitter user @thorndrool[3] posted a humorous image with Cyclizar, gaining over 290 retweets and 1,200 likes in under 24 hours (shown below, left). Twitter user @PxwerL[4] joked the character resembled the alien XLR8 from Ben 10, gaining over 290 retweets and 2,200 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

It is unclear if Cyclizar has any relation to the game's legendary Pokémon, though many noted they looked similar. Polygon[6] reported on some theories about Cyclizar, saying some leakers think the Pokémon could transform into Koraidon and Miraidon using a "Paradox Mechanic" that has yet to be revealed by The Pokémon Company. Others think Koraidon and Miraidon are versions of Cyclizar from an alternate timeline.
