Generation Beta or Gen Beta is the generation of people born between 2025 and 2039. Gen Beta is notable for being the first generation of people to live in a world of normalized artificial intelligence. Many Gen Betas will also notably live to see the 22nd century. In late December 2024, posts about the next generation of children being part of Gen Beta began to go viral online, inspiring reactions and memes, with many poking fun at Gen Beta people for being "betas" while the previous generation were "alphas," referencing the name "Gen Alpha."

History

The term "Generation Beta" was coined by the same person who coined "Generation Alpha," futures Mark McCrindle, defining the generation as anyone born between 2025 and 2039.[1]

First Gen Beta Babies

On January 1st, 2025, at 12:03 a.m. local time, a baby named Frankie was born in India at Synod Hospital. This baby became international news for being the first Gen Beta baby born in India.[2] At approximately 12:05 a.m. local time, a baby named Remi was born in Australia and also went viral for being one of the first Gen Betas.[3] At 12:19 a.m. local time, Saskatoon's first Gen Beta baby, Atticus Marcien Harper Vandale, was born, with Alberta's first Gen Beta baby arriving at 01:18 a.m. local time.[4]

Online Presence

On December 30th, 2024, news that the next generation of people, starting in 2025, would be known as Gen Beta, began going viral online.

For example, on that day, the X[5] page @Dexerto made a post sharing the news, garnering over 199,000 likes in a week. Also on December 30th, the X[6] page @ThePopTingz made a similar post, garnering over 70,000 likes in the same span of time.

The posts inspired memes about the classification "Gen Beta." Many related the term to the idea of "alphas" and "betas," with betas being seen as weak and alphas strong. On December 30th, 2024, X[7] user @JoeLongBalls posted, "mogged at birth with a name like that, good luck you little fuckin idiots," garnering over 135,000 likes in a week.

On January 5th, 2025, X[8] user @tonystatovci posted a comedy skit about red pill podcasters discovering Gen Beta, garnering over 11,000 likes in three days.

On January 7th, TikToker[9] @bmotheprince posted a skit about Gen Beta, garnering over 444,000 views in a day.
