Cuh Dey Board, also known as Cuh Dey Boad, is a phonetic translation for both "'cause they bored" and "cutting board," prevalent in memes on TikTok. It's used in memes as a way to mock TikToker Montaine (@ohmontaine) based on a viral rap video of his in which he said "'cause they bored," sounding like "cuh dey board." Additionally, "cuh dey board" sounded like "cutting board," related to the TikToker's habit of using a cutting board in most of his videos. The TikToker was perceived as cringe for the video as well as for others on his channel, resulting in increased usage of "cuh dey board" in his comment sections and memes made about him.

Origin

In 2023, TikToker^[1] @ohmontaine grew a large following whereby August 2023, he had amassed over 1.3 million followers. His videos centered on relationship and dating advice, and in many of them, he was often cutting vegetables on a cutting board. Others on the app started to notice his habit and make fun of it, such as TikToker^[2] @i.c.e._ in an April 5th, 2023, stitch, gaining roughly 130,000 plays and 18,900 likes in four months (shown below).

In mid-2023, TikTokers on the app started to portray disdain for @ohmontaine, such as TikToker^[3] @santiagothewiz on July 8th, 2023, who accused @ohmontaine of posting content specifically catered to women and labeled him a "red flag," gaining roughly 2.3 million plays and 228,500 likes in one month (shown below, left). Hate comments were then posted underneath @ohmontaine's videos, resulting in a TikTok^[4] he posted on July 9th, in which he made a rap for the haters, gaining roughly 2.3 million plays and 85,400 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Later in the month, on July 20th, 2023, TikToker^[5] @yuvaltheterrible stitched @ohmontaine's rap video, making fun of the way he said "'cause they bored," pronouncing it like "cuh dey boad" and asking if the video was racist. Over the course of one month, the stitch received roughly 4.7 million plays and 497,600 likes (shown below).

TikToker^[5] @yuvaltheterrible's stitch led others on the app to go to the comment section of @ohmontaine's rap video and write, "cuh dey boad," such as TikToker @mardubbyy on July 21st, whose comment gained roughly 21,600 likes in one month (shown below). On July 21st, 2023, TikToker^[6] @ohmontaine posted a video with "Cuh dey bord" in the caption.

In the weeks that followed, memes using the phonetic phrase continued to surface, such as a video posted by TikToker^[7] @ceejay____trujillo on July 25th, 2023, which received roughly 1.6 million plays and 18,600 likes in one month (shown below, left). On July 28th, 2023, TikToker^[8] @igov posted a remix of @ohmontaine's rap, gaining roughly 1.7 million plays and 253,800 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On August 16th, 2023, TikToker^[9] @ohmontaine posted a video that angrily called out "all the men" commenting "cuh dey boad" on his videos, gaining roughly 919,000 plays and 37,500 likes in one week (shown below, left). His response then gained backlash, evident in a video posted by TikToker^[10] @cricken_ on August 21st, 2023, with a caption reading, "bro is just accepting it," gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 175,300 likes in two days (shown below, right).
