Crunk Ain't Dead is a hip-hop song by Duke Deuce. The track's video gained popularity online thanks to its opening scene where Duke Deuce is shown getting CPR, apparently coming back to life, and immediately begins jumping and rapping enthusiastically. The scene has been paired with captions related to people coming back from the dead.
Origin
On November 27th, 2019, Duke Deuce released the song "Crunk Ain't Dead." The video has gained over 15 million views on YouTube in nine months (shown below, left). On February 19th, he released a remix featuring Lil Jon, Juicy J, and Project Pat (shown below, right).
Spread
On December 22nd, 2019, YouTuber Meme Clips uploaded a clip of the video's introduction, gaining over 87,000 views (shown below, left). However, the clip did not spread primarily through YouTube. A compilation of the meme posted by Quantum Dank on March 24th, 2020 gained over 15,000 views, and mostly featured variations from Twitter.
The meme was primarily popular on Twitter, where it was used with captions signifying people or objects coming back from the dead. On February 2nd, 2020, Complex posted a variation about the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, gaining over 4,500 retweets and 12,000 likes (shown below, top). On August 23rd, user @ninetailsdemon uploaded the clip in reference to the rumored coma of Kim Jong-un, gaining over 5,700 retweets and 23,000 likes (shown below, bottom). The same day, Redditor SkillAura75[1] posted an example of the meme to /r/CODWarzone, gaining over 8,300 points.
