Crotch Handshake / Friends Shaking Hands Through Pants Zipper refers to an exploitable image of two boys in a school hallway shaking hands through each other's pant zippers while staring directly at the camera. Over time the image gained significant popularity as an exploitable, with people labeling various aspects of the image to give it new context.

Origin

On January 12th, 2019, Imgur[1] user Iputbootsonsnakes uploaded the unlabelled image to the site via their iPhone, titled, "When you love and respect each other" (shown below). The image gained over 127,000 views and 4,200 upvotes in just under 2 years, and is the earliest known public upload of the image.

Spread

On January 13th, Redditor thatssus re-uploaded the image to /r/photoshopbattles,[2] titled, "PsBattle: These two friends shaking hands through their pants zip." The post gained 379 upvote in just under 2 years, inspiring a few photoshops of the image (examples shown below, left and right).

On the same day, Redditor Su-Bae-Bae re-uploaded the image to /r/MemeEconomy,[3] gaining 176 upvotes in just under 2 years. In the comments, they posted an example of the image in response to a comment asking for one, representing one of the earliest labeled versions of the image (shown below, left). On January 14th, a version of the image with one kid labeled "People who asks for sauce" and the other "People who provides sauce" was posted to iFunny by user supaAutist,[4] gaining over 77,000 smiles and 1,000 comments (shown below, right).

On February 5th, Know Your Meme user Adam[5] uploaded a version of the image to the "Sicko Mode or Mo Bamba" entry, gaining 1,500 views in just under 2 years (shown below, left). On June 16th, iFunny[6] user ThicceyMouse uploaded an image macro showing off the unlabeled source image of the boys shaking hands appearing in their yearbook (shown below, right). The top text reads, "These kids don't even go to my school, but someone took the picture from online and just tossed it in the yearbook. None of the teachers noticed." The post gained over 93,000 smiles and 847 comments. Another image of the boys appearing in the same yearbook was uploaded to /r/bursedimages[7] on August 7th, garnering over 62,000 upvotes.
