Crocs and Shaving Cream refers to a viral TikTok video of a person filling Crocs with shaving cream then stepping in them allowing the shaving cream to stream out of the holes in the shoe.
Origin
On May 2nd, 2019, TikTok user zwagmoney posted a video of a person putting their foot in a Croc full of shaving cream. The video gained over 544,600 likes and 26,600 shares in six days (shown below).
Spread
On May 2nd, 2019, Twitter user @Idchlo reposted the video saying, "I had to watch this so u all have to too" (shown below). The video gained over 485,700 likes and 156,900 retweets in six days. On May 5th, the video was reposted to r/oddlysatisfying[1] by Redditor dobbyisafreepup and garnered 672 (76% upvoted) in three days.
As the video circulated on Twitter and TikTok, many other users began posting recreated videos. On May 5th some users started responded to the videos negatively. @realsticynic[5] tweeted, "Can all y’all putting shaving cream in crocs and stepping in the please get a job/hobby. And also throw those ugly ass shoes away" while Twitter user @AKuthBros33[4] tweeted, "Stop putting shaving cream in your #Crocs you weirdos!" (shown below).
Over the next few days YouTubers began to post videos of the "Croc vs. Shaving Cream Challenge" many of the users joking that it was ASMR (shown below, left). On May 7th, News 5 of Cleveland posted a video of a news anchor performing the challenge (shown below, right). Media outlets like BuzzFeed[2] and Popbuzz[3] covered the viral video.
