About
Croatia-Bosnia Border Map refers to an image of a map of the countries Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina that went viral in July of 2018. The map demonstrates how the Croatia is mostly north of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but a long stretch of Croatia borders the beach of the Adriatic Sea, blocking nearly all of the other country's access to the water. The map was joked about in dialogue parodies characterizing Croatia as spitefully blocking the water.
Origin
On July 4th, 2018, Twitter user @ohNoobDerp[1] tweeted the map of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina with the caption:
Bosnians : I wanna swim
Croatia : No
The tweet gained over 126,000 retweets and 342,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
After the image went viral on Twitter, variations were posted to Reddit's /r/me_irl[2] and /r/mapporncirclejerk,[3] gaining 4,800 and 110 points, respectively. However, some Twitter users noticed that there was a small portion of the map in which Bosnia and Herzegovina had access to the Adriatic Sea: the town of Neum, a port town (shown below).
In response to the meme, people noted that Neum was actually a beautiful, scenic place (examples shown below).
On /r/MemeEconomy, user diarem posted a meme referencing England's loss to Croatia in the 2018 World Cup, gaining 18 points (shown below).
