About

Correct, Madam refers to a series of image macros featuring a reaction image of Venom from Spider-Man saying "Correct, madam" to a woman. The image comes from issue 150 of the comic Venom, released in 2017. It was first used as a meme in late 2018.

Origin

On May 24th, 2017, issue 150 of Venom was released.^[1] In the issue, a mall cop uses a woman as a human shield against Venom after witnessing him kill a group of robbers. The woman calls Venom a monster and Venom responds, "Correct, madam." The cropped panel of Venom saying the line was first posted as a meme to /r/niceguys on Reddit^[2] on October 19th, 2018, titled, "The absolute chad," garnering over 150 upvotes in five years (shown below). It was reposted by Tumblr^[3] user eddiebrockrocks on the same day, garnering over 10,800 notes in the same span of time.

Spread

The meme spread over the following years. On September 2nd, 2019, Redditor memespicelatte posted a version of the meme to /r/dankmemes on Reddit^[4] that gained around 75 upvotes in four years. On October 3rd, 2021, Instagram^[5] user localhotie posted a version of the meme about ordering a Happy Meal at McDonald's as an adult, garnering over 950 likes in two years (shown below). The meme was reposted by numerous accounts going forward, including Facebook^[6] page The Meme Book on October 4th, garnering over 3,000 shares and 7,700 reactions in two years, Instagram^[7] page lapartestranadellinternet the day after, garnering over 26,500 likes and Instagram^[10] page memes that December, garnering over 503,000 likes in just over a year.

The McDonald's joke continued to be referenced in future iterations of the meme. On May 4th, 2022, Redditor witheredfax posted a new version of the meme to /r/Spiderman,^[8] garnering over 12,000 upvotes in a year (shown below, left). On July 27th, Twitter^[9] user @zandercom2u posted a version of the meme that gained over 182,000 likes in 10 months (shown below, right).

On August 12th, the Anime Meme Facebook^[11] page posted a version of the meme attaching the Venom image to a new source, garnering over 9,400 shares and 27,000 reactions in nine months. On November 13th, Instagram^[12] page kshu_senpaii posted a version that gained over 111,000 likes in six months (shown below).
