Coochie Man refers to a hip-hop song by YN Jay called “Coochie Land” that’s used in a meme on TikTok. In various Coochie Man clips, TikTok users record themselves singing along to the song while transitioning scenes based on the lyrics, especially used in makeover-type videos. The trend became popularized in August and September 2020 following the song’s release.

Origin

The original song that the meme references is pulled from YN Jay’s “Coochie Land” that was released on August 3rd, 2020, and uploaded to the hip-hop artist’s YouTube^[1] channel on August 4th. The exact lyric used in the memes occurs around the 1:15 mark (seen below). Since being uploaded, the video received over 400,000 views, 10,000 likes and 290 comments in roughly one and a half months.

The exact first time the song is used as a meme is unknown, but it appears on TikTok as early as August 2020, shortly after the song was released. One such example comes from TikToker^[10] datboybrock, who uploaded the earliest-known video featuring the song on August 5th (shown below), receiving over 1.1 million views, 142,000 likes and 3,600 shares in a month and a half.

On August 13th, YouTuber^[2] Clout Challenge uploaded a compilation of the memes (seen below, left), which received over 62,500 views, 1,000 likes and 55 comments in one month. On August 21st, 2020, YouTuber^[3] Shunned TikToks uploaded another compilation to their channel, where it accumulated more than 41,200 upvotes and 475 likes in roughly one month (seen below, right).

Coochie Man Superhero

In August 2020, TikToker^[5] user Nunchez began posting a series of videos to his account depicting himself as a superhero named “Coochie Man” using a visual effect that elongated his chin. One such example was uploaded to his TikTok^[6] account on August 24th (shown below, left), receiving over 1.5 million views, 294,000 likes and 1,130 comments in roughly one month. On September 4th, he uploaded another version to his TikTok,^[7] which received over 9.9 million views, 295,000 likes and 1,130 comments in 14 days (shown below, right).

On September 14th, YouTuber^[8] TIKTOK ISLAND uploaded a compilation of Super Hero Coochie man TikToks mimicking the trend (seen below, left), receiving nearly 10,000 views and 183 likes in eight days. On September 17th, Redditor^[9] Grumbly_Voyage45 posted one of Nunchez’s clips to the /r/Cringetopia subreddit under the title "Coochie Man: Actually enjoyable cringe", receiving over 770 upvotes, 67 comments and one Reddit award in 24 hours. On September 13th, YouTuber^[4] Nutshell Animations uploaded an animated version of the meme (seen below, right), receiving over 73,400 views, 3,200 likes and 253 comments in five days.
