Congrats Happy For You, also known as Angry Kid Congrats Happy For You, refers to an image macro and reaction image meme showing an angry, young Black kid during a photoshoot standing with his hands in his pockets and then sitting, scowling or frowning throughout the photos. The image first appeared on Reddit in November 2018, being used in object labeling jokes for each picture of the little kid's angry expression. Later in 2021, the phrase "Congrats, happy for you, nice" was added in each image to represent envy or feelings of anger towards someone else's achievements. The meme is often shared on Twitter / X, Facebook and Instagram.

Origin

On November 16th, 2018, Redditor u/WorkFriendlyAcct posted a photoshoot to the /r/funny^[1] subreddit featuring three images of a little Black kid showcasing frustration and an angry facial expression. The post (seen below) amassed over 109,000 upvotes and 1,400 comments in seven years.

On June 20th, 2021, an unknown Stare Cat^[2] user uploaded the earliest known version of the frustrated Black kid photoshoot with the macros "congrats, happy for you, nice" over each image of the child (seen below).

The young kid's photoshoot gained viral usage as an image macro meme format and reaction image in the 2020s, often adding funny text overlays in each of the angry Black kid's pictures.

For example, on November 15th, 2021, Redditor u/NineteenEighty9 posted a version of the meme to the /r/wholesomememes^[3] subreddit, adding the caption, "Hardest thing to do as a kid." The post amassed more than 32,000 upvotes and 120 comments in four years.

On July 11th, 2024, Redditor u/rmx861 posted a redraw version of the Congrats, Happy for You, Nice meme to the /r/ZZZ_Official^[4] subreddit featuring a character from Zenless Zone Zero (seen below), amassing roughly 1,200 upvotes and 26 comments in a year.
