About

Comparing Albums With Peppa's Adventures refers to a humorous practice of comparing Pitchfork review scores for new album releases to that of the 2021 album Peppa's Adventures: The Album. Spawned by a viral tweet comparing DaBaby's Blame It on Baby against the album, the meme achieved even higher recognition when Peppa Pig's official Twitter account quote tweeted a post in which Peppa's Adventures was compared against Kanye West's Donda.

Origin

On July 31st, 2021, music magazine Pitchfork[1] published a review for Peppa's Adventures: The Album, the second album by Peppa Pig, the main character of the British animated television series Peppa Pig. The magazine gave the album a 6.5 out of 10 score.

On the same day, Twitter[2] user @th3mb0fication posted the review score for Peppa's Adventures and the doctored review for DaBaby's 2020 album Blame It on Baby, which got a 6.8 rating from the magazine.[3] In the tweet, Blame It on Baby's review was changed to 4.8, lower than Peppa's Adventures score, with @th3mb0fication commenting, "Ate his ass up." The tweet gained over 12,300 retweets and 112,000 likes in one year (shown below).

Spread

On August 9th, 2021, iFunny[4] user 1Facepam reposted the earliest derivative meme based on the format that compared The New Abnormal by The Strokes to Peppa Pig's album (shown below).

On August 30th, the gimmick Twitter[5] account @PeppaPig6point5 was launched. In the following weeks, the account compared Pitchforks scores of various albums to that of Peppa's Adventures: The Album, with the account going defunct on September 10th, 2021.

On August 31st, 2021, Twitter[6] user @seeohhellbeewhy made a tweet in which they compared Peppa's Adventures with the recently released Donda by Kanye West, which received a 6.0 score from Pitchfork (shown below, left). On September 1st, 2021, the official Twitter[7] account of Peppa Pig quote tweeted @seeohhellbeewhy's post, writing, "Peppa didn't need to host listening parties in Mercedes-Benz Stadium to get that .5 🎤🐽" (shown below, right). The tweet was quickly deleted but was screenshotted by several Twitter users before that.[8][9]

In the following days, multiple news websites reported on the Peppa Pig's tweet.

In late 2021, the format saw occasional use online. On November 21st, 2021, GameRant[10] included a screenshot of low Metacritic user scores for Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Vanguard and Grand Theft Auto – The Trilogy and a 8.4 user score for the video game My Friend Peppa Pig, with the image being circulated on social in the following weeks.
