About
Come Underneath The Blanket, continued I Got Something To Show You, refers to an exploitable webcomic format where a man and a woman are lying in bed and the man asks her to come underneath the blanket to see something, then shows her something comedic that typically glows, such as glow-in-the-dark dinosaurs. The meme became popularized in 2020 and inspired a number of variants replacing the fourth panel with various objects. The original comic is by artist Pisi Pop.
Origin
On August 24th, 2020, Instagram[2] page pisipopmx posted a comic showing a naked pink-haired girl and a blue-haired boy lying in bed together. The two kiss and then go under the covers. In the fourth panel, they are shown floating in space embracing and kissing in a field of stars, meant to illustrate their enjoyment (shown below). The comic gained over 3,200 likes in just over a year.
A version of the meme replacing the fourth panel with glow-in-the-dark dinosaurs and adding the text "come underneath the blanket, I got something to show you" was reposted by Facebook repost page Oriev Alejandro sometime after this, although appears to have been deleted since, resulting in a watermark "ORIEV" on many subsequent reposts. On September 4th, 2020, Twitter[1] user Varanis_Ridari posted this version of the meme (shown below). This is the highest engagement variation of the meme.
Spread
The format continued to spread in the following days and weeks. For example, on September 5th, 2021, a now-deleted Redditor posted a version of the meme to /r/dndmemes[3] replacing the fourth panel with glow-in-the-dark dice, gaining over 20,000 upvotes in a year (shown below).
The format and its variants saw increased interest around October 2021. On October 25th, 2021, Twitter[4] user kusodima posted a now-deleted Genshin Impact redraw of the meme where Itto shows off some glowing bugs under the cover, gaining an unknown number of likes and retweets before removal (shown below). On November 2nd, Facebook[5] page I've been autistic all along? posted the dinosaur version, gaining over 3,100 shares and 6,300 reactions in three weeks. It was reposted to Instagram[6] page meme.ig the same day, gaining over 129,000 likes in the same span of time.
