About
Cogita is a character encountered in the latter half of the 2022 video game Pokémon Legends: Arceus who plays an essential role in resolving the game's plot and later provides the player with a post-game challenge. Her older appearance and wealthy air have led players to speculate that she may be in some way related to Cynthia, though this is unconfirmed. Upon the game's release, Cogita became the subject of numerous fan art depictions around the web, also drawing similarities to Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil: Village for her comparable looks.
Origin
Unlike some other popular characters in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Cogita was not revealed prior to the game's January 28th, 2022, debut and was instead discovered by fans following release. In the game, Cogita appears in the latter half of Arceus (spoiler below).[1]
After the player is exiled from Jubilife Village, Volo brings the player to Cogita. She then tells the player about the Red Chain needed to quell Palkia and Dialga. In the post-game, she gives the player advice on how to find and catch Landorus, Thunderus, Tornadus and Enamorus.
Spread
After the game's release in late January 2022, players quickly began to speculate on Cogita's relationship to other Pokémon characters and depict her in fan art. Due to her mysterious dialogue and knowledge of Hisui myths, fans began to wonder if she, Volo and Cynthia were potentially related.[2] For example, on February 9th, 2022, Twitter user ymym_rinka[3] showed the three together in a piece that gained over 1,500 retweets and 4,000 likes in one month (shown below, left). Fans also compared Cogita to Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil: Village, as both are older women with a wealthy air and similar appearances. On February 20th, Twitter user @otari7902[4] posted an image of the pair together, gaining over 950 retweets and 4,900 likes in 18 days (shown below, right).
Cogita has also been the subject of a significant amount of Rule 34 fan art on Twitter and DeviantArt.[5]
