Coby White's Reaction refers to basketball player Coby White's reaction caught on camera to the news that his former UNC teammate, Cameron Johnson, was drafted by the Phoenix Suns with the No. 11 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. The video of White became viral due to his heart heartwarming and emotional reaction.

Origin

On June 20th, 2019, the NBA on TNT Twitter account posted a video clip of Colby White being told Cam Johnson got selected number 11 (shown below). The video gained over 18,000 likes and 3,800 retweets in a day. White becomes emotional and excited, voicing that Johnson worked so hard for this.


Spread

On June 20th, 2019, Tar Heels fans[1] posted about the night of the draft (shown below, left). Their tweet listing those drafted gained over 700 likes in a day. Many Twitter users reacted to how genuine and wholesome White's reaction was. On that night, @Yung435[2] tweeted, "See me the way Coby White sees Cam Johnson. 😂😂😂" (shown below, center). The tweet gained over 400 likes and 100 retweets in a day. Twitter user @jay_nodollasign[6], "If you don’t have real ones that react to your accomplishments the way Coby White reacts to Cam Johnson getting drafted then, sorry to tell you, you don’t have real ones." The tweet garnered over 600 retweets and 2,000 likes in a day (shown below, right). News outlets like USA Today,[3] Tar Heel Blog[4] and Arizona Sports[5] took notice of the heartwarming reaction and published articles on the video.
