About

Coach is a playable character in the multiplayer co-op first-person shooter Left 4 Dead 2. On YouTube, a 3D model of the character has frequently been used as the protagonist in various animated short films created using Valve's Source Filmmaker software.

Origin

On November 17th, 2009, the game Left 4 Dead 2, in which players can assume the role of the character Coach, a former high school football coach from Savannah, Georgia.

Spread

On June 9th, 2009, a page for Coach was created on the Left 4 Dead Wiki.[1]

On October 16th, 2013, YouTuber TabascoSauceBoss uploaded a SourceFilmmaker video titled "Ogreagressive," in which the Coach character dances while singing the 1978 disco song "YMCA" by the Village People (shown below).

On July 15th, 2016, YouTuber Prone2Pwn uploaded a video titled "Coach goes ham [SFM]," which gathered upwards of 4.3 million views and 2,000 comments over the next two years (shown below, left). On September 15th, YouTuber an0nymooose uploaded a music video in which Coach dances to the 2010 hip-hop song "How Low" by Ludacris (shown below, right).

On May 9th, 2017, an0nymooose uploaded a music video titled "Rule Breaker," featuring Coach playing the song "Heartbeat" by JEDDI (shown below, left). On February 14th, 2018, an0nymooose uploaded a Coach music video for the song "Time Traveler" by the indietronica duo Knower (shown below, right).
