CNN Doctor Holding In Sneeze refers to a viral video of Dr. William Schaffner being interviewed by CNN host Erin Burnett attempting to hold back a sneeze and failing. The video clip of the sneeze circulated Twitter in March 2020 due to the comedic panic-stricken face he made before the sneeze.

Origin

On March 27th, 2020, Twitter user @c_alexander19 shared the video clip of Schaffner with the caption, "That boy tried his hardest to hold that cough in…" (shown below). The post received over 506,900 likes and 136,900 retweets in three days.

Spread

On March 28th, 2020 Twitter users began responding with captioned screenshots of Schaffner's face. Twitter user @Kuon_shin[1] tweeted a screenshot with the caption, "The look of a man that has let his country down" which gained over 3,900 likes in two days (shown below, left). Twitter user @CashMuny_36[2] shared a Steve Buscemi edit with the caption, "Bro said" which garnered over 25,300 likes and 1,700 retweets in two days (shown below, right).

That same day, Twitter user @quantum_kobe[3] shared a screenshot with the caption, "The face when you hear your name get yelled after you get caught sleep in class" (shown below). The next day, The Daily Dot[1] published an article on the viral video.
