About
Clem (Twitch Slang) is a reference to the Warframe character Clem which was spammed in Twitch chats en masse in December 2023, coinciding with a Twitch raid of The Game Awards 2023 stream. After the spam, curiosity peaked online over the meaning of the "Clem" slang term, inspiring posts, tweets and memes, such as one from the official X account of Twitch.
Origin
On December 7th, 2023, the 2023 Game Awards streamed live on Twitch.[1] During the stream, users started to spam "Clem" or "CLEM" in the chat as shown in a tweet shared by X[2] user @TheVarlinator on December 7th, who said, "Twitch chat is literally just people going CLEM & everyone else just asking WTF is Clem? 😂" gaining over 640 likes in a day (shown below).
During the same timeframe, discussions occurred in the /r/Warframe[3][4] subreddit, where users alleged that Warframe influencers Danielle and Helen told the community to spam "Clem" during prime time.
Spread
Soon after the initial slew of "Clem" spam, internet users started to post memes about the phenomenon, such as Redditor NinjaMaster231456 to the /r/memeframe[5] subreddit on December 8th, 2023, receiving over 370 upvotes in less than a day (shown below).
Also, on December 7th, 2023, the official X[6] account of Twitch tweeted, "CLEM," gaining roughly 2,500 likes in a day (shown below).
