About
The Chromebook Durability Test TikTok Trend, also known as the Chromebook Challenge or Chromebook TikTok Trend, refers to a 2025 trend of destroying Google Chromebook laptops at school and posting the videos on TikTok. The trend started in early March 2025, following a viral video of someone throwing a Chromebook against a school bathroom wall and joking that it was a "Chromebook durability test." The trend evolved when the Chromebook Annihilation Combo was added, leading to more elaborate destruction of the school property.
Some laptops were also set on fire as smoke filled classrooms, while others were dismantled and smashed. The trend was deemed an internet challenge by worried parents and school faculty, who expressed concern and levied backlash against the social media trend in early May 2025 as media outlets began reporting on it. In many ways, the school property-centric trend mirrored the controversial Devious Licks Trend from late 2021.
Origin
On March 5th, 2025, the TikTok[1] account of Barstool Sports reposted a video, who they credited to a TikToker[2] named @chapstick_1. The video is no longer on their account.
The video showed a Chromebook being thrown against a school bathroom wall and floor until it was broken into many pieces. The text caption read, "Chromebook durability test," and Barstool's repost received over 16,200 likes in two months (shown below).
Spread
The abovementioned video was reposted by several other TikTok[3] and Instagram[4][5] accounts in early March 2025.
Others started adding to the trend of posting their own Chromebook Durability Tests shortly after. For instance, on March 5th, TikToker[6] @urfav.egyptian_ posted a video of a Chromebook being destroyed, receiving over 321,000 likes in two months (shown below).
More iterations quickly surfaced on TikTok in the following days. On March 8th, 2025, TikToker[7] @chance_clipz posted a compilation of some of the best videos by that time, gaining over 156,500 likes in two months (shown below).
On April 25th, TikToker[8] @nataloclesin posted a skit that parodied "The kid who did the Chromebook durability test," portraying them as annoying. The video received over 159,300 likes in 12 days (shown below).
Videos continued to surface in May 2025. For instance, on May 5th, TikToker[10] @lemondinos shared a video of a Chromebook smoking in a classroom, writing, "TS can't be real," with the Dead Rose Emoji. Over two days, it amassed over 1.8 million likes (shown below).
Chromebook Annihilation Combo
TikTokers then began sharing "Chromebook Annihilation Combo" videos in April 2025, in which they messed with the display of their Chromebook to trick its next user.
For instance, on April 15th, 2025, TikToker[9] @prodbydamienn shared a video on how to do the Annihilation Combo, gaining over 474,500 likes in a month (shown below).
