About

Christian Biker, also known by the caption He Thinks He Is Christian, is an exploitable cartoon in which a tattooed and bearded biker is reading a bible on a bench or church pew next to three other people, who look distressed. Starting in 2021, the image has been used as a source material for memes, with the biker often replaced with various characters and word or thought bubbles added over their heads.

Origin

While the exact origin of the image is unknown, it was created by an artist going by the name "Jamder" or "Jawder" sometime prior to November 2010 (shown below). On November 25th, 2010, Blogspot[1] user thaligabo made the earliest discovered upload of the cartoon, using the image to accompany a blog post about Christianity.

In the following years, the image was used by more users on Blogspot, who typically used it to illustrate their posts.[2][3]

In the mid-2010s, an unknown user created an image macro based on the cartoon,[4] with the caption (in Portuguese) stating that "your role is to love and not judge." The three people on the panel were also given remarks in which they judged the biker (shown below).

On January 9th, 2021, the Facebook[5] page Sober Dad posted an edit of the cartoon in which people next to the biker called him out as "not a true follower," with the biker saying, "Christ, my heart is yours." The post (shown below), which was accompanied by a Bible verse, received over 3,900 reactions and 26,000 shares in one year.

Spread

Starting on January 11th, 2021, the image has been humorously edited multiple times, with users either altering the remarks or replacing the biker with other characters. On that day, iFunny[6] user hiyro posted the earliest found edit of the image in which the biker was replaced with a bodybuilder (shown below, left). The post gained over 120 smiles in one year. On April 29th, 2021, Tumblr[7] user hogmaildotclom posted a Byeah meme that received over 7,000 likes and reblogs in nine months (shown below, right).

On August 25th, 2021, the Instagram[8] meme page trashcanpaul posted a recaptioned We Live in a Society version of the meme that gained over 125,000 likes in one year and was widely circulated online (shown below).

More viral edits of the image were posted across Twitter, Reddit and other social media in 2021 and 2022.
