Choose a Way to Born or Kind Baby or Evil Baby refers to an exploitable meme series based on a mobile game ad for Beauties and Emperors showing a woman standing between two babies, the one on the left representing a "kind baby" and the one on the right an "evil baby," asking viewers, "choose a way to born." The image was first shared on Twitter in March 2020 and spread over the following years, inspiring redraws and photoshops replacing or altering the shown characters.
Origin
On March 7th, 2020, Twitter[1] user @Babysnames posted a screenshot of a mobile game ad for Beauties and Emperors,[2] showing a woman in between two babies under the caption, "choose a way to born." The baby on the left is labeled "kind baby" along with several traits that make it kind while the baby on the right is labeled "evil baby," also labeled with traits including "rebel," "cynical" and "evil." The post gained over 3,100 likes in three years (shown below). On March 29th, now-deleted Twitter[3] user @honeybeetrice posted the same image, writing, "assigned evil at birth," garnering over 13,000 likes before it was deleted.
On March 30th, Twitter[4] user @thematchalight posted a redraw of the meme based on Kingdom Hearts, garnering over 1,200 likes in three years (shown below). This is the earliest known meme based on the image.
Spread
The meme continued to spread over the following years. On September 30th, 2020, Instagram[5] user kirby.the.star.warrior.blizzy posted a version replacing the babies with Pokemon, garnering over 1,700 likes in three years. On February 24th, 2022, Instagram[6] user epicjoko posted a version of the meme that garnered over 55,000 likes in a year (shown below).
On June 13th, 2023, Twitter[7] user @822Hase posted a version of the meme referencing Gundam, garnering over 3,000 likes in two months (shown below, left). On July 31st, Tumblr[8] user ganondoodle posted a version referencing Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, garnering over 330 notes in a day (shown below, right).
On August 1st, the Genshin Memes Faecbook[9] page shared a version of the meme referencing Genshin Impact, garnering over 2,200 reactions and 220 shares in under 24 hours.
