About

Chocolate Barbie or MizOrMac Bites The Dust, also known as the TikTok Head Bobbing Trend, refers to a viral remix by Drill Sensei of the songs "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen and "Mad About Bars" by Harlem Spartans. A short clip of the remix was first posted to TikTok in August 2021 and a full version was posted to YouTube the same month. Later that year, the song inspired a trend on TikTok where users bob their heads in time to the remix over a comedic on-screen caption.

Origin

On August 7th, 2021, TikToker[1] drill.sensei posted a snippet of a remix of Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" and Harlem Spartans' "Mad About Bars" rap, gaining over 2.1 million views in four months. On August 10th, Drill Sensei posted a full version of the remix to YouTube,[2] gaining over 1.8 million views in a comparable span of time (shown below).

Spread

It is unclear who started the head bobbing trend to Drill Sensei's remix, but it seems to have started gaining popularity on TikTok in November 2021 following an August 20th reupload of the track over soccer footage by TikToker[5] @liverpoolfans.com. On November 20th, 2021, TikToker[3] @thatleafsfan posted a video to the sound bobbing his head with his girlfriend in an ironic celebration of her watching a hockey game with him finally, gaining over 373,000 views in a month (shown below, left). On the same day, TikToker[4] @jess.stevenson8 posted a video doing the head bop in relation to her and her sister hanging out because they're both dating friends, gaining over 43,900 views in the same span of time (shown below, right). These appear to be two of the earliest videos following the trend.

On November 21st, Landon Barker, son of Travis Barker, posted a video to TikTok[8] following the trend with a caption hyped about having Thanksgiving with family, panning to show Kourtney Kardashian and his daughter Penelope bobbing their heads, gaining over 22.5 million views in a month (shown below).

On November 29th, TikToker[6] @divinnee posted a video bopping her head to the song, gaining over 59.5 million views in just under a month (shown below). It was reported on by Distractify[7] on December 7th. The sound has been used over 795,000 times as of December 20th, 2021.
