Chinese Restaurant Never Let You Finish Your Sentence refers to a series of edits based on a parody TikTok video about Chinese restaurants in which the the person taking the order keeps interrupting the customer. In memes, various sound and visual effects are edited into the video, with the type of the restaurant altered accordingly. The format is similar to Chinese Restaurants in the Hood Be Like, an earlier meme based on another TikTok by the same user.

Origin

On December 13th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @gloveofficial posted a video parodying the customer experience in a Chinese restaraunt titled, "Chinese restaurant never let you finish your sentence." In the video, @gloveofficial is attempting to make an order at a Chinese restaurant but is constantly interrupted by the person taking the order asking questions and making suggestions. The video (shown below) garnered over 5.2 million views and 917,000 likes in ten months.

Spread

Starting on December 19th, 2023, users on TikTok posted edits of the video, applying various visual and sound effects and altering the type of the restaurant. For example, on December 19th, 2023, TikTok^[2] user @yoshicity1980 posted an edit captioned "Chinese restaurant in hell never let you finish your sentence" that gained over 1.1 million views and 183,000 likes in ten months (shown below).

Prior to December 24th, 2023, TikTok user @quantum_nutsack posted a version captioned "Chinese restaurant in Futuristic Chicago where horses evolved and are now at war with humans never let you finish your sentence", which had @gloveofficial interrupted by horse sounds and gun sounds. The since-deleted video saw viral spread online in the following weeks through reposts (YouTube^[3] reupload shown below).

More edits of the video were posted on TikTok and other sites in late December 2023 and early January 2024. For example, on December 27th, TikTok^[4] user @hoodiebud posted a version that received over 69,900 views and 12,900 likes in ten months (shown below).
