Chinese Rap Dubs refers to Chinese dubs of rap music. The trend started with a Chinese dub of rapper LAZER DIM 700 posted to Twitter / X in March 2024. Then, French-speaking rapper Stranogo posted Chinese dubs of his songs "YTP FLOW" and "PASTA BOX" to TikTok, earning viral usage as TikTok sounds. Many joked about being "cooked" because they now thought Chinese rap was "hard." Stranogo was also called "Lazer Chen 700," among other Asian puns.

Origin

On April 13th, 2024, X^[13] user @sugarsmorecake tweeted a video that was a Chinese dub of a LAZER DIM 700 song, receiving over 1,300 likes in one month (shown below).

Stranogo's "YTP FLOW" And "PASTA BOX"

On April 22nd, 2024, Stranogo posted a Chinese dub of his song "YTP FLOW" to TikTok,^[4] gaining over 839,100 plays and 97,800 likes in 16 days (shown below, left). On April 25th, he posted a Chinese dub of his song "PASTA BOX" to TikTok,^[5] gaining over 1.1 million plays and 163,100 likes in 13 days (shown below, right).

Stranogo's first language is French and he posted the original French version of "YTP FLOW" to Instagram^[1] and TikTok^[2] on March 13th, 2024. Stranogo posted the original French video for his song "PASTA BOX" to TikTok^[3] on March 26th.

On April 24th, 2024, TikToker^[6] @jrock_unknown posted a video of himself listening to the Chinese dub of "YTP FLOW," writing in text, "yk ur cooked when u think chinese rap hard," receiving over 270,500 plays and 44,500 likes in two weeks (shown below, left).

On April 25th, 2024, TikToker^[7] @dtbdan posted a video with the Chinese dub of "YTP FLOW," using an almost identical caption, gaining over 2.4 million plays and 347,400 likes in 13 days (shown below, right).

After Stranogo posted the dub for "PASTA BOX" on TikTok,^[8] people started to use the TikTok sound for their content too, such as TikToker^[8] @lijahbeenfunny on April 29th, 2024, who joked about passing his Asian friend the aux, receiving over 963,200 plays and 174,700 likes in 12 days (shown below, left).

Also on April 29th, 2024, TikToker^[9] @curriy posted a Jeremy Lin edit with the Chinese dub of "YTP FLOW," earning over 1.6 million plays and 327,300 likes in 12 days (shown below, right).

Chinese LAZER DIM 700 / Lazer Chen 700

In the comment section of his original "YTP FLOW" TikTok,^[4] a user named @seven_blackstar called Stranogo "Lazer Chen 700" regarding the Atlanta rapper LAZER DIM 700. Soon after, others posted TikToks^[10] about LAZER DIM 700 with Stranogo's Chinese dubs.

On May 5th, 2024, Stranogo posted a TikTok^[11] that was a Chinese dub of LAZER DIM 700's song "Asian Rock.^[12] The video received roughly 37,800 likes in three days (shown below).

On April 27th, 2024, Stranogo posted the full Chinese music video for "YTP FLOW" to YouTube,^[14] including "LAZER CHEN 700" in the video's title (shown below).
