The Chinese Military Dance Trend refers to a TikTok dance trend and series of redraws based on a video of a male dancer dressed as a Chinese soldier doing a high kick split. The video went viral on Chinese social media sites like Bilibili and Douyin (Chinese TikTok) in late 2025, and later spread to Western platforms like TikTok. Internet users recreated the dance or shared fan art and animation memes of characters doing the soldier's high kick move. The original video was first posted to Bilibili in 2017.
Origin
On June 8th, 2017, Bilibili[1] user Lux's Scare Box shared a video described as, "The men's group dance 'We Are All Brothers' at the theme song and dance party 'Building Dreams at the Border' of the 5th National Ethnic Minority Art Performance." The footage originally aired on "Bayi TV," a "China Military Network," according to the video's title. The video notably starts with a man dressed as a soldier doing a split high kick on stage. Over eight years, the video received over 62,000 likes.
Spread
Years later, on September 13th, 2025, Bilibili[2] user 久衣战神 shared an edit that used the abovementioned clip of the dancer high-kicking, gaining over 150 likes in a month.
Several Bilibili users shared new edits of the dancing soldier, such as Bilibili[3] user 是奥利奥奥啊 on September 15th, who shared a video of them drawing the dancing soldier in the midst of his high kick, gaining over 11,000 likes in a month.
The trend spread to TikTok soon after, evident in a post from TikToker[4] @aug.stary on September 20th, 2025, showing themself drawing the dancing Chinese soldier in his high-kick position. Over one month, the video received over 100,100 likes.
On October 3rd, TikToker[5] @wu.mo1 reposted a video from Chinese social media of a woman cosplaying as the dancing Chinese soldier and performing his dance, including the high-kick split. Over four weeks, the video received roughly 273,600 likes.
On October 26th, 2025, TikToker[6] @i_eatt_bugs shared an animation meme, showing characters from Dandy's World reenacting the original video. Over three days, the animation gained over 73,100 likes.
