Chicken Boy

About

Chicken Boy refers to a viral photograph of a boy with a chick sitting on his shoulder in which the chick's eye lines up perfectly over the boy's to create a confusing perspective. The photo went viral on social media in November 2024, drawing comparisons to the Naruto character Shisui Uchiha, being circulated as a Pic That Goes Hard and inspiring fan art and caption memes.

Origin

On September 3rd, 2024, the Facebook^[1] page Mighty Optical Illusions uploaded a photograph of a boy with a young chicken sitting on his shoulder, and the chick's eye overlapping perfectly with the boy's, creating an optical illusion (shown below). The original uploader of the photograph is currently unknown.

Spread

On November 13th, 2024, the Facebook^[2] page unspectacular subject photography shared the image, with the repost gaining over 1,700 reactions and 120 shares in one week.

On November 17th, Redditor GoblinModeMedia shared the image in the /r/confusing_perspective^[3] subreddit, where it received over 17,000 upvotes in four days. On the same day, Instagram^[4] page hard.images made a repost that accumulated over 191,000 likes in the same period.

Later on November 17th, X^[5] user @Rainmaker1973 posted the photograph with the caption, "Chicken boy," notably calling it by that name for the first time. The post (shown below) received over 28.6 million views, 8,000 reposts and 87,000 likes in four days.

The viral spread of the post prompted memes and fan art based on the image. Notably, on November 18th, 2024, X^[6] user @Blocboy_GT captioned the image with a Died / Born / Welcome Back meme referencing Naruto character Shisui Uchiha, which received over 34,000 reposts and 305,000 likes in three days (shown below).

On November 19th, 2024, X^[7] user @fright_art shared a Naruto-inspired redraw of the photograph that received over 10,000 reposts and 136,000 likes in two days (shown below).
