About

Chelsea Clinton's Bus Being Run Off Road Video refers to a viral video seemingly showing Chelsea Clinton's tour bus being rammed off the road by four lifted trucks with Trump flags on them. The woman recording the video is also screaming, "They rammed it off the road!" and "Oh my God, Chealsea!" among other shocked statements. However, the video was discovered to be fake, instead being made in the video game Grand Theft Auto V. After the video was posted by TikToker @lossantostruthseekerlive in early 2023, it spread to Twitter where discourse ensued. Many believed that it was real at first, however, a Twitter fact-check let users know of its origin. Regardless, the video led to many memes and quote retweets.

Origin

On May 2nd, 2023, TikToker[1] @lossantostruthseekerlive posted a video that was made in the video game Grand Theft Auto V, in which @lossantostruthseekerlive generated a scene in the game that showed a blue tour bus with Chelsea Clinton's name on it being rammed off the road by four lifted pick-up trucks. A woman's voice is heard narrating the events that lead to the bus going off-road. Over the course of three days, the video gained roughly 513,700 plays and 27,800 likes (shown below).

Spread

Later on May 2nd, 2023, the video was reposted by Twitter[2] user @7d93371 who captioned it, "Wait is Chelsea Clinton okay? This MAGA squad ran her off the road!?!" The tweet gained roughly 12,400 likes in three days and the video itself gained over 2.6 million views (shown below).

The aforementioned video gained millions of views due to others on Twitter who used the video in their own tweets. For instance, on May 3rd, 2023, Twitter[3] user @ZeroSuitCamus tweeted the video and pretended that she had taken it, writing, "Just captured this from the front window of my Uber. Unreal. Hope Chelsea is okay 🙏," gaining roughly 39,400 likes in two days (shown below).

On May 4th, 2023, Twitter's fact-checking team added a note underneath the video, writing, "This is not real. This was recorded within the video game, ‘Grand Theft Auto V’. The creator of the video uploaded custom game files so the Clinton bus could be in the game." Regardless, many online still posted memes about it, pretending that it was real or attesting that they initially fell for it. For instance, on May 4th, Twitter[4] user @JUNlPER QRT'd it, stating, "i thought this was real for the last 14 hours until my grandson informed me that this is a deepfake. but the fact that i thought this was real says a lot about society," earning roughly 12,300 likes in one day (shown below).
