Cheating Is One Thing refers to a snowclone which trended on Black Twitter in early August of 2018 which uses the template "Cheating is one thing, but X," with X representing what would generally be considered a lesser offense than cheating exaggerated for comedic effect.

Origin

While the joke trended in early August of 2018, one of the earliest popular examples of the format was posted by Twitter user @CoreyKeyz^[1] on June 10th, 2014, gaining over 1,600 retweets and 2,300 likes (shown below).

The format saw a resurgence starting on August 1st, 2018. One of the most popular tweets posted that day was by user @foreignbadgyal_, gaining over 90 retweets and 160 likes (shown below).

Spread

Over the following days, the snowclone continued to trend on Twitter, with variations made by both men and women. On the men side, some popular variations include a tweet by @vuhsace which gained over 2,500 retweets and 6,100 likes (shown below, left) and a tweet by @bh_antt that gained over 430 retweets and 900 likes (shown below, right).

On the female side, some popular tweets include a post by @ItsADiiamond that gained over 1,400 retweets and 3,400 likes (shown below, left) and another by @dianaaadee who gained over 1,000 retweets and 4,300 likes (shown below, right).
