On April 13th, 2025, the X[1] account @PopCrave tweeted a photo of British pop artist Charli XCX wearing a "Miss Should Be Headliner" sash at a Coachella afterparty where Green Day was reportedly the headliner.[2] The photo received over 47.2 million views and 60,000 likes in a day (shown below).

The tweet sparked viral outrage levied at Charli XCX. For instance, on April 13th, 2025, X[3] user @MIDS0MM4R quote tweeted @PopCrave, writing, "Imagine being so far up your own ass that you think you're more popular than Green Day after one mediocre EDM album that was overplayed by coke addicts on TikTok." The quote gained over 260,000 likes in a day (shown below).



Similarly, on April 13th, X[4] user @enchcnteds quoted the post, writing, "Full shade she has exactly one successful album," gaining over 185,000 likes in a day (shown below).



Also on April 13th, 2025, Redditor Diligent_Night602 posted about Chrli XCX's sash to the /r/popculturechat[5] subreddit, receiving over 6,900 upvotes in a day.

The top comment was posted by Redditor[6] HazelTheHappyHippo, who said, "Last summer was Brat, but the end of September is every year," referencing the Brat Summer and Wake Me Up When September Ends memes. The comment received over 5,700 upvotes in a day (shown below).



Charli XCX's fans also defended her online. For instance, on April 14th, X[7] user @mazzypopstar tweeted, "What she wore vs. what y’all think she wore judging by these reactions," attaching a recaptioned version of the original photo that read, "Fuck Green Day + Billy Joe Armstrong is fat" (shown below). The tweet gained over 3,900 likes in nine hours.



Others criticized Charli XCX by noting that Green Day stood up for Palestinian freedom when they altered lyrics in "Jesus of Suburbia" during their 2025 Coachella set.[9] For instance, on April 13th, 2025, X[8] user @uhvitauh tweeted, Green Day making a political statement about shit that actually matters > pop girlies singing about coke," receiving over 141,000 likes in a day (shown below).
