Characters Who Could Beat Sukuna refers to a series of memes that pit characters from various animated series and other media against Jujutsu Kaisen antagonist Sukuna. The format achieved virality in March 2024, with users making arguments that Mordecai and Rigby from Regular Show, Nicole Watterson from The Amazing World of Gumball and other characters could beat Sukuna. The trend is notably similar to the But Can He Beat Goku? trend.

Origin

In the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series and its anime adaptation, Ryomen Sukuna is the strongest jujutsu sorcerer and one of the main antagonists, who defeated multiple characters over the course of the series, including Satoru Gojo.

On March 17th, 2024, X[1] user @cpasDryNa posted images of Sukuna and Regular Show characters Mordecai and Rigby, writing that the duo could defeat Sukuna. The post (shown below) received over 3,500 reposts and 35,000 likes in five days.

The post was followed with jokes about possibilities of a confrontation between Mordecai and Rigby vs. Sukuna. For example, on March 17th, 2024, X[2] user @KosakuKawajiri7 made a post in which Mordecai and Rigby insulted Sukuna, which received over 340 reposts and 4,000 likes in five days (shown below).

In the following days, users on X / Twitter suggested more characters who could beat Sukuna. On March 19th, X[3] user @duskgumi wrote that Nicole Watterson from The Amazing World of Gumball could beat Sukuna, with the post garnering over 9,700 reposts and 124,000 likes in three days (shown below).

The trend maintained a presence on X / Twitter in the following days, with users pitting suggesting characters and posting memes.

But Can He Beat Goku?

But Can He Beat Goku refers to a catchphrase that has been used by some fans of the anime/manga series Dragon Ball to represent the strength of the main character Son Goku, asking if a given subject could beat him in a fight. It's also used as exploitable, for example, changing a character's dialogue to ask the question. The earliest known use of the phrase is a 2018 meme on 9GAG.
