Changed My Body From the Way God Made It, It Reflects My Altered Mind is a catchphrase that was originally used by Canadian singer-songwriter Grimes on Twitter in a tweet about her leg tattoo. Grimes' tweet was perceived as cringe by many online, evident in the memes and quote retweets that ironically used the phrase to parody and caption different photos of bad tattoos.

Origin

On June 10th, 2023, Grimes posted a tweet^[1] that read, "Changed my body from the way God made it, It reflects my altered mind." The phrase captioned an image of her leg tattoo. Over the course of three days, the tweet gained roughly 24,200 likes (shown below, left). On the day that the tweet was shared, humorous reactions surfaced via quote retweets. The first QRT to gain over 100 likes was posted by Twitter^[2] user @girlofswords on June 10th, reading, "me when I injected myself with estrogen to grow tits," in reference to being trans, gaining over 410 likes in three days (shown below, right).

On June 10th, 2023, a few minutes after Twitter^[2] user @girlofswords' tweet, Twitter^[3] user @bongoism quote retweeted Grimes with the original Drew Like a Dark, Fucked Up Version of X Haha. Just a Glimpse Into My Dark Reality meme, saying, "this is how u sound rn," gaining roughly 164,400 likes in three days (shown below, left). Going into the next day, June 11th, ironic usage of Grimes' catchphrase surfaced, such as when Twitter^[4] user @El_Derribos tweeted a photo of a chair tattoo, gaining roughly 15,100 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Going into June 2023, more viral tweets^[5][6] using the phrase surfaced on the platform. Reposts also appeared on websites like Instagram, among others.^[7]
