Chad Cop refers to a photoshopped image of a police officer edited to give the officer a prominent chin and long tuft of hair, similar to the Chad meme. The edited image was joked about numerous times on Twitter in 2020 before it was discovered to be a photoshop.

Origin

The undoctored image comes from 2016 protests of the death of Pierre Loury in Chicago (shown below).[1]


On July 18th, 2020, Twitter user @warmfourloko[4] posted a comparison of the photoshopped cop next to a Chad meme, gaining over 35,000 retweets and 290,000 likes (shown below).


Spread

The image spread on Twitter and Reddit, with many believing the photo was real. Twitter user @bigsipofmonster[2] posted a doctored version of the photo which gave the cop features similar to the Chad meme, namely a longer tuft of hair and a more pronounced chin. The tweet gained over 5,800 retweets and 41,000 likes (shown below, left). User @someblackg[5] compared the cop to White Face Mark Zuckerberg, gaining over 320 retweets and 4,000 likes (shown below, right).


A thread in /r/photoshopbattles[3] called the cop an "IRL chad." User IceColdNick posted the picture to /r/blursedimages,[6] gaining over 75,000 points. On July 20th, writer Ryan Broderick[7] posted that he'd discovered the image was photoshopped, gaining over 190 retweets and 1,700 likes (shown below).
