Celebrity Hand Sanitizer Comparisons refers to a series of tweets in which various celebrities are compared to different hand sanitizers depending on their outfits. The Twitter trend became popular in March 2020 during the coronavirus outbreak, urging many to keep their hands clean.
Origin
On March 12th, 2020, Twitter user @finelinemoonx[3] tweeted, "Harry styles as hand sanitizers a thread; KEEP YOUR HANDS WASHED" with side-by-side pictures of Harry Styles and matching hand sanitizer (shown below). The tweet garnered over 8,400 likes and 1,700 retweets in a week.
Spread
On March 12th, 2020, Twitter user@lmaocths[4] posted a thread of "luke hemmings as hand sanitizer" which received over 980 likes and 200 retweets in a week (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter user @lovingcmila[5] posted a Camila Cabello variation which accumulated over 1,7000 likes and 300 retweets in six days (shown below, right).
On March 14th, Twitter user @PradaDracula[6] posted "Kanye West as Hand Sanitizers: A thread" which garnered over 6,400 likes and 1,600 retweets in five days. Insider[1] and Billboard[2] both published articles on the trend.
