Celebrities Deleting Tweets refers to a conspiracy theory that various celebrities are erasing their Twitter / X posting history for fear that it would uncover incriminating evidence about their relationship with P. Diddy. The rumors about celebrities supposedly deleting Twitter posts emerged after R&B artist Usher seemingly deleted his Twitter presence on September 22nd, 2024, as did singer P!nk and actress Megan Fox. However, Usher came forward saying that his Twitter was hacked and that all his tweets are back up again, while Megan Fox is reported to have left Twitter back in 2013. The rumors that several celebrities were deleting their Twitter presence were exacerbated by Elon Musk quoting an old tweet that read, "Twitter is both a social media company and a crime scene" by writing, "…"

Origin

Late on September 21st, 2024, various Twitter (now called X) users made posts about how Usher supposedly deleted thousands of tweets from his account. X^[1] user @vrotocol was one of the first to make a notable post about the supposed wipe of Usher's account, while X^[2] user @GeneralMCNews posted a screen recording showing how none of the singer's tweets were accessible at the time.

On September 22nd, X user Matt Wallace^[3] tweeted, "Usher just deleted all of his tweets. The Diddy tapes are about to send hundreds of celebrities to prison," gathering over 379,000 likes in a day.

Spread

As word of the rumor continued to spread online in late September 2024, accounts like X's @DailyLoud^[4] and Facebook's^[5] MadChillTV made posts about Usher supposedly deleting all his tweets on September 22nd, 2024, gathering over 19,000 and 1,000 likes, respectively, in one day.

The rumor was also reposted to Reddit's /r/popculturechat^[9] on September 22nd, where it gathered over 3,700 upvotes in a day. Redditor /u/ILikePlayingDressUp also posted to the subreddit /r/OutOfTheLoop^[10] asking why Usher was deleting his tweets on September 22nd, gathering over 1,000 upvotes in a day.

Many internet users theorized that Usher might be deleting his tweets to erase evidence that implicates him in Diddy's arrest, given a February 2024 rumor that Diddy exploited Usher in his youth.

Some X users began to involve other celebrities in the rumor, as seen in a September 22nd, 2024, post by X^[6] user @atensnut, who wrote, "Has Taylor started deleting yet?" alongside a photo of Taylor Swift posing with Diddy. The post gathered over 52,000 likes in a day.

Megan Fox and P!nk Deleting Tweets Rumors

On September 22nd, 2024, the conspiracy theory that celebrities were deleting tweets spread to include singer P!nk and actress Megan Fox.

That day, X^[7] user @johnrich made a post asking, "Why has @pink and @usher both deleted their entire posting history on X as of today?" He later quoted his own post writing, "Add Megan Fox to the list of deletes…" The posts gathered over 29,000 and 11,000 likes, respectively, in a day.

However, the posts received extensive Community Notes pointing out that both P!nk and Megan Fox had left Twitter months or years ago.

Elon Musk's "Twitter Is A Crime Scene" Tweet

On September 22nd, 2024, Elon Musk quoted an earlier tweet that read, "Twitter is both a social media company and a crime scene," writing "…" and gathering over 99,000 likes in a day.

Various internet users viewed this tweet as a confirmation that the "Celebrities Deleting Tweets" conspiracy theory was true, as seen in a post by @TaraBull808 that same day.^[8]

Usher Responds

On September 22nd, 2024, Usher posted a tweet responding to the rumors that he deleted his account, saying that he was hacked and joking about how people "ran with it! 😂😂😂" The post gathered over 40,000 likes in a day.
