Carrie Bradshaw at Big's Door, also known as Carrie With a Whip and Top Hat, refers to an image macro and caption meme of the character Carrie Bradshaw (played by actress Sarah Jessica Parker) from the television show Sex and the City. The image is often used to joke about doing something embarrassing or degrading, or to comment on Bradshaw's obsession with her situationship, Mr. Big (Chris Noth), in the series. A notable catchphrase, "SHE'S SO EMBARRASSING but her body is tea so I can't stay mad," inspired by this scene that was originally posted by X user @naked_dog_gif in 2024 also spread alongside the meme.

Origin

Season 2, episode 12 of the HBO television show Sex and the City aired on August 22nd, 1999.[1] The episode was titled, "La Douleur Exquise!" (which translates to "Exquisite pain" in English) and follows Carrie as she learns that her on-again, off-again boyfriend Mr. Big is moving to Paris.

The beginning of the episode shows Carrie knocking on Big's door wearing a top hat and holding a whip in her mouth, as seen in a YouTube[2] clip posted by WDD1551 on June 3rd, 2010.



WordPress[3] user @Snarkoplex reposted the still with the caption, "Not another Jehovah's Witness," on May 13th, 2014, while Tumblr[4] user @mazzystardust reposted the still on June 28th, 2015.

On July 17th, 2024, X[5] user @naked_dog_gif posted a notable GIF about the scene in which Carrie Bradshaw stands in Big's doorway wearing a top hat and holding a whip in her mouth. The tweet read, "SHE'S SO EMBARRASSING but her body is tea so I can't stay mad," gathering over 50,000 likes before the post was deleted.

Several internet users quoted the post, joking that they hope to be described this way, as seen in a post by X[6] user @laylology that read, "this is how I hope people discuss me when I die."



On December 12th, 2024, X[7] user @babyscallop reposted the image of Carrie Bradshaw alongside a caption that read, "me: you think im fuckin dumb? also me:" The post gathered over 50,000 likes in seven months.



On December 16th, the Instagram[8] page @baseballscenefromtwilight reposted a TikTok meme of unknown origin that read, "How it feels to post on your story when you have a crush," gathering over 50,000 likes in seven months.



On June 9th, 2025, X[9] user @swag9000000 tweeted the image of Carrie Bradshaw, writing, "how it feels to text first," and gathering over 37,000 likes in a day.
