Carmy's "Why Are You Fucking With Me" refers to a clip from the 2022 comedy-drama series The Bear and various edits based on it in which Jeremy Allen White's character Chef Carmy Berzatto is yelling at Marcus Brooks (portrayed by Lionel Boyce). The scene achieved virality as a reaction and a video caption meme format and has also been used as a component of Wow This Game Is Pretty Fun memes.

Origin

On June 23rd, 2022, season one episode seven, titled "Review," of the American comedy-drama television series The Bear premiered.^[1] In the episode, the protagonist Chef Carmy Berzatto is made furious by a chaotic moment in the restaurant's kitchen, lashing out at the staff (scenes shown below). In one scene, Carmy yells at pastry chef Marcus over neglecting his primary duties to complete his side project, repeatedly screaming, "Why are you fucking with me?" at him and telling Markus to get back to work.

On June 26th, 2023, the X^[2] account @allreactionvids uploaded a clip of Carmy yelling at Marcus for future use as a reaction video. The upload (shown below) garnered over 340,000 views, 300 reposts and 1,700 likes in one year.

On January 1st, 2024, TikTok^[3] user @theverse uploaded a montage consisting of this and other scenes from the episode set to a beat, with the video (shown below) gaining over 3.5 million views and 480,000 likes in seven months.

The clips saw use as reaction videos and as a caption video format in 2023 and 2024. For example, on October 25th, 2023, X^[4] user @Pandaddy7 posted the first video with a complaint about prices for concert tickets, with the post (shown below) gaining over 590 reposts and 2,600 likes in 10 months.

On February 15th, 2024, Instagram^[5] user @peis.mp3 posted a Sections of a Joint meme about the cooperative video game Overcooked 2, an edit of an earlier meme by Facebook community Gamers Academia Dos, which used the clip. The video (shown below) gained over 78,000 likes in six months and spawned the Wow This Game Is Pretty Fun meme.

On July 16th, 2024, X^[6] user @weirddalle reposted the video, with the post gaining over 18.9 million views, 59,000 reposts and 382,000 likes in one month. The post was followed by more similar memes in the following weeks. For example, on July 20th, X^[7] user @FURIA_USA posted a similar meme about Apex Legends that garnered over 870 reposts and 6,500 likes in one month (shown below).
