About

Card Games On Motorcycles! is a quote from the video created by Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series creator LittleKuriboh on his Youtube account, CardGamesFTW where assorted characters from 4kids' Yu-Gi-Oh! 5d shout "CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES" in turn, with a variety of tones: including shock, confusion, excitement, etc.

Backround

Yu-Gi-Oh!! is a series know for its addiction to make small changes to both the equipment and methods of playing the card game the show is based around. These changes happen around each season of the show, most of which were not to significant. However, one change in the spin-off series Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D , which incorporated motorcycles into the function of the game, enraged fans. Moreover, this addition is thought to be the point at which, Yu-Gi-Oh! had jumped the shark.

Origin

On March 31, 2010, CardGamesFTW uploaded a video for April Fool's Day in which he claimed to be started a new Abridged series, which began with the infamous "Card Games on Motorcycle" segment and lead into a terribly done One Piece Abridged episode. In a case of extreme irony, the overuse of the phrase was meant to be a self-parody of LittleKuriboh's supposed overuse of catchphrases, but it has gone on to be one of the single most popular gags from the show. A similar occurence had happened previously when the character Joey attempted to make Brooklyn Rage his catchphrase.

This is, however, not the first use of this phrase. On December 5, 2009, LittleKuriboh uploaded an overdubbed trailer for the 10th Anniversary Yu-gi-oh! movie to his other Youtube account, Ninjabridge . Roughly 55 seconds in, Jack Atlas yells the now infamous line.

Official Acknowledgement

On the 17th October 2010, LittleKuriboh on his official Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series Facebook account and Twitter account started a campaign to get the catchphrase to win a poll on the Toonzaki Facebook page, to decide the new promo for Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's. The campaign was an overwhelming success, and on the 4th of November, Toonzaki began using the phrase in it's official promtions.

On the 28th June 2011, anime dubbers and distibutors Funimation, perhaps coincidentally the current owners of the original Yu-gi-Oh franchise, sent out emails advertising the series Rideback with the heading Ballerina's On Motorcycles. It is currently unknown whether this was an intentional homage or a coincidence though.
