Captain Underpants Movie Sped-Up Edits refers to a series of memes on TikTok where clips from the 2017 movie Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie are sped up, slowed down and played repeatedly. The trend was popularized in August 2023 and started by TikToker @ryderations.
Origin
On August 24th, 2023, TikToker[1] @ryderations posted a video edit where a scene from the Captain Underpants movie repeats several times, increasing speed with each repetition. In the scene, George shows off the hypno ring and explains that it's "forged from the molten plastic of Shindong China." The video gained over 1.7 million views in a week (shown below).
Spread
The trend spread on TikTok over the following days. On August 25th, 2023, TikToker[2] @ryderations posted another example of the meme that gained over 900,000 views in a week (shown below, left). On August 26th, TikToker[3] @cuzimevilikethat posted a version of the meme that gained over 4.5 million views in five days (shown below, right).
On the same day, TikToker[4] @leecall02.on.xbox posted a version of the meme where George sings "I love Saturday," garnering over 1.5 million views in five days (shown below).
