About
Can't Even X in Ohio π or Only in Ohio is a phrasal template and catchphrase used in a series of videos on TikTok in which users show scary footage (often of animated monsters or disasters) under variations of the caption "can't even X in Ohio," with "X" being an everyday task. Popularized on TikTok in August 2022, the videos combine the Ohio vs. the World and Can't Have Shit in Detroit memes to portray Ohio as a horror-filled wasteland, typically set to the song "Swag Like Ohio" by Lil B and associated with the lyric "down in Ohio."
Origin
Can't Have Shit In Detroit / Ohio vs. The World
Can't Have Shit In Detroit memes use the caption "can't have shit in Detroit" over images of stolen or damaged goods and were popularized in 2018. Ohio vs. the World memes became increasingly popularized in the 2020s and speculate on an unknown danger centered around the state of Ohio and sometimes portray the state as full of monsters. In 2022, TikTokers began posting videos under the original sound for "Swag Like Ohio" by Lil B combining the two, using phrases like "can't have shit in Ohio" over footage of animated monsters and disasters. For example, on August 10th, 2022, TikToker[1] @1arooo posted a video of a massive skeleton stomping a city, the caption suggesting it's Ohio, garnering over 2.3 million views in 12 days (shown below, left). On August 13th, 2022, TikToker[2] @just.dom__ posted a video captioned, "cant have shi in ohioππ i was js tryna sleepπ" showing a shadowy figure with glowing eyes standing in a doorway, garnering over 4.7 million views in nine days (shown below).
