Can I Try Rizzing You Up? refers to a series of memes based on a viral text exchange where the sender asks the receiver if they can try rizzing them up, the receiver replies, "Sure LOL," and the sender responds by repeatedly typing "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE." The original exchange was posted to X (Twitter) in September 2023 and gained viral spread over the following months, inspiring photoshops attaching characters from various fandoms to each conversation participant. The meme was also voiced over and became the subject of animations and memes on TikTok as an original sound.

Origin

On September 8th, 2023, X^[1] user @pipluptiny posted two screenshots of a text exchange between herself and a nameless individual. The exchange begins with the individual asking her, "Can I try rizzing you up?" She responds, "Sure" and "LOL" and the other party responds with a repeated string of "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE." She then responds, "oh my god is that the try" and he responds, "yeah did it work? I can do it again," followed by another string of "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE's." The post gained over 13,000 likes in roughly three months (shown below).

The text exchange gained viral spread over the following weeks, including a September 28th Instagram^[2] post by user uranus that gained over 12,000 likes in two months. That day, Redditor u/AmhranRipley posted an edit of the meme to /r/spectacularmemes^[3] attaching Spider-Man characters to each sender, garnering over 1,200 upvotes in two months (shown below). This is the earliest known photoshop of the exchange.

Spread

On October 2nd, 2023, the original meme was posted to /r/me_irl,^[4] garnering over 22,000 upvotes in a month. It was posted to /r/TextingTheory^[5] on October 5th, garnering over 2,000 upvotes in the same rough span of time. On October 15th, YouTuber^[6] and TikToker^[7] @finalzephyr posted a voiced over version of the meme, garnering over 1,400 views on the former and 1.2 million views on the latter (shown below).

The original sound became the subject of animations on TikTok over the following weeks. For example, on October 17th, TikToker^[8] @caduncia posted a Genshin Impact animation using the audio that gained over 277,000 views in a month (shown below, left). On October 26th, TikToker^[9] @xvetheus008 posted an animation that gained over 234,000 views in the same rough span of time (shown below, right).

On November 1st, TikToker^[10] @scribble_mama posted an animation using the audio that gained over 960,000 views in four weeks (shown below).
