About
Calm Luh Fit, also known as Luh Calm Fit, is a slang catchphrase that describes an outfit which took low effort to achieve a good style. The phrase became a meme on TikTok in late 2023, mostly due to a photo slideshow trend that swiped through the outfits of different celebrities, characters and memes, manifesting early on with old photos of Twitch streamer Duke Dennis. Going into September and October 2023, the catchphrase became associated with the Erosion Bird meme and a TikTok trend in which people filmed all of their clothes on the ground implying that they were naked in public. Also, a song called "Calm Luh Fit" by Tweaknh surfaced in the timeframe, spawning its own slideshow trend ("Issa calm luh fit").
Origin
Usage of "calm luh fit" and "luh calm fit" date as far back as August 2022, via non-viral posts on X.[1] Although it's unclear where the term originated from, its first viral usage was from a TikToker named @W3ySosk11, who posted a video sometime in June 2023, reading, "Calm luh school fit day 3." As stated, duets [2] with the video date back as early as June 17th, 2023.
A viral repost of the video was shared by TikToker[3] @originalmovieclips_ on August 2nd, gaining roughly 1.6 million plays and 133,700 likes in two months (shown below).
Spread
Following the aforementioned video's upload, usage of "calm luh fit" and "luh calm fit," manifested in a photo slideshow trend that started after August 2nd, 2023. The trend used a sound[4] that mashed a Lana Del Rey quote ("If you become a fashion icon I'm gonna kill myself"[5]) with the song "Kiss Of Life" by Sade[6] ("There must have been an angel by my side"). TikTokers posted slideshows with the sound,[4] showcasing clothes from famous, meme-related outfits.
For instance, on August 8th, 2023, TikToker[7] @bizzellll posted a slideshow of his "first day [of school] fit," gaining roughly 869,100 plays and 116,100 likes in two months. Later on August 8th, TikToker Luhkaden commented on the aforementioned slideshow, writing, "Luh calm fit." The comment received roughly 2,300 likes in two months.
The same phenomenon happened on August 11th, 2023, when TikToker[8] @bruh_dude_why_do_that posted a slideshow with the sound,[4] gaining roughly 1.9 million plays and 380,000 likes in two months (recording shown below).
Then, on August 13th, 2023, TikToker randalf68 commented on the aforementioned video, writing, "just a luh calm fit," gaining roughly 19,700 likes in two months (shown below).
Going into August 2023, viral slideshows on TikTok[9] using the trend's sound[4] started to use old photos of streamer Duke Dennis allegedly from his Facebook account. Duke Dennis then addressed the trend on stream, calling it the "luh calm fit" trend. A clip of the moment was shared by YouTuber[10] AMPVaults on August 24th, 2023 (shown below).
"Rate My Fit" Trend
On August 24th, 2023, TikToker[13] @kickswithfrank posted a video in which he seemingly took all of his clothes off, asking the viewer to rate his fit, gaining roughly 8.2 million plays and 1.3 million likes in two months (shown below, left). Multiple top comments on the video said, "calm luh fit."
Going into September 2023, the format was replicated by other TikTokers, many of whom added "luh calm fit" as text overlay (TikTok[14] example shown below, right).
Erosion Bird
Erosion Bird, originally known as Opium Bird, is the name given to an AI-generated picture of a large bird-like creature that is depicted on a snow-covered mountain. The bird, being larger than humans, became popularized on TikTok in September 2023 (similar to fellow fake cryptid Siren Head) as users on the platform created more artificial intelligence art featuring it. Meme creators also paired the bird with the "luh calm fit" catchphrase (TikTok[11][12] examples shown below).
"Calm Luh Fit" by Tweaknh
On August 27th, 2023, underground rapper Tweaknh posted a video to TikTok[15] that featured a new song of his called "Calm Luh Fit" produced by kashpaint, gaining roughly 161,700 plays and 16,300 likes in two months. On September 1st, 2023, he posted the song to Soundcloud, [16] gaining roughly 22,100 listens in one month (shown below).
Predominantly starting in late September 2023, TikTokers began using the sound[17] of his original TikTok[15] for slideshows. For instance, an early iteration was posted by TikToker[18] @ermuhhum, featuring photos of actor Woody Harrelson on a The Hunger Games premiere, receiving roughly 1.2 million plays and 272,200 likes in six days (recording shown below).
