About

"Bye Bye" Mewing Shh, also known as Bye Bye 🤫🧏‍♂️, refers to Lumi Athena's "ICEWHORE!" which is a slowed phonk song that became viral on TikTok and Instagram Reels sounds due to its usage in Mewing, Mogging and Looksmaxxing meme videos in 2023 and 2024. In the videos, creators put their finger to their mouth to make a "Shh" face and then point at their jawline to represent mogging the viewer with their mewing. Many creators used the shushing face emoji (🤫) in combination with the deaf man emoji (🧏‍♂️) who's seen pointing at his jaw.

Origin

On March 18th, 2023, the YouTube[1] account of artist Lumi Athena posted the audio for their song "ICEWHORE!" Over 10 months, the video received roughly 3.8 million views and 105,000 likes (shown below).

Predominantly starting in May 2023, the song gained usage on TikTok,[2] evident in a viral video posted by TikToker[3] @goyarli on May 31st, 2023, that showed her glow-up, gaining over 801,900 plays and 103,200 likes in eight months.

On June 29th, 2023, TikToker[4] @chrixkenth posted an edit of model Jordan Barrett with "ICEWHORE!" as the sound. The video (akin to the Looksmaxxing trend) gained over 7.4 million plays and 312,700 likes in seven months, predominantly starting the memetic usage of "ICEWHORE!" going forward.

Spread

Going into 2023, usage of the song in looksmaxxing memes continued to trend en masse, peaking in August 2023. For instance, on August 12th, 2023, TikToker[5] @syrianpsycho posted a video about a grandpa not talking because he's mewing, gaining over 4.2 million plays and 604,400 likes in five months (shown below, left).

On September 1st, TikToker[6] @imcordizila posted a Donald Trump mewing edit with the song that received over 5.5 million plays and 560,800 likes in four months (shown below, right).

Bye Bye 🤫🧏‍♂️

Starting in September 2023, the "ICEWHORE!" sound and its "Bye bye" lyric became associated with a gesture in which people put one finger to their mouth to go "Shh" and then point at their jawline. The gesture indicated that the person couldn't open their mouth and talk because they were mewing.

Currently, the first known video to use "ICEWHORE!" and the gesture was posted by TikToker[7] @juliatos on September 4th, 2023, gaining over 362,400 plays and 51,500 likes in four months (shown below).

Continuing into late 2023, the gesture was widely spread with "ICEWHORE!" For instance, on November 9th, 2023, TikToker[8] @pablos_fat posted a video with text about "Why don't you guys talk in class?" gaining over 13 million plays and 1.5 million likes in two months (shown below, left).

On January 6th, 2024, TikToker[9] @useruser2007hahahah posted a video that used the "🤫🧏‍♂️" emoji combination on WhatsApp, gaining over 686,800 plays and 86,900 likes in 11 days (shown below, right).

During the same timeframe, "ICEWHORE!" trended as a sound on Instagram Reels via similar mewing and looksmaxxing videos. For instance, on December 30th, 2023, Instagram[10] user @aurachadfr posted a video that showed male users using Instagram's notes feature to mog others. The Reel received over 147,000 likes in one month (shown below).
