About

But I'm Nothing Without This Suit refers to a memorable line from the 2017 Marvel Studios superhero film Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since the line appeared in a trailer for the film, the quote has been used in a variety of memes that make jokes on the film, its production and other forms of entertainment.

Origin

On March 28th, 2017, Marvel Entertainment released the second trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming on YouTube. In the trailer, there is a confrontation between the characters Spider-Man and Iron Man. Iron Man, who, in the film, makes Spider-Man's suit, demands it back. Spider-Man says, "But I'm nothing without the suit." Iron Man replies, "If you're nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it." The trailer (shown below) received more than 9 million views in three months.

Later that day, the Instagram account @TheNiceGuyCast posted an image macro of Spider-Man actor Tom Holland next to a number of Iron Man suits. The image is captioned "Tony: if you're nothing without this suit, then you shouldn't be wearing it." The image (shown below) received more than 1,100 likes in three months.[1]

On July 10th, a variation of the meme appeared on Imgur. User AFoxPlayingChess posted the moment from the film with Sony executive Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige's heads photoshopped over Spider-Man and Iron Man's, respectively. The caption reads, "'We're nothing without this franchise.' 'If you're nothing without this franchise, then you don't deserve it.'" The image (shown below, left) received more than 4,000 views.[2]

The following day, Facebook user The Geek Strikes Back posted a similar version, this time replacing Pascal and Feige's heads with the logos for Sony and Marvel, respectively. The post (shown below, right) received more than 2,700 reactions and 700 shares.[3]

On July 22nd, Redditor FukingNormie posted a variation to the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit.
