But I Didn't Listen!

"But I didn't listen!", or alternately "They told me X, but I didn't listen!" is a phrase said by character Party Favor in the second part of the Season 5 premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The phrase is commonly associated with an exploitable image of Party Favor's face, often used as a reaction image.

Origin

Both the phrase and image originate from a scene in My Little Pony episode "The Cutie Map – Part 2",^[1] which first aired on April 4th, 2015. In the scene, a pony named Party Favor explains that the rest of the ponies tried to convince him "cutie marks" were good, but he didn't listen.

Spread

Immediately following the episode's initial airing, the unusual face and accompanying quote were posted on several sites, including the /mlp/ board on 4chan repeatedly. Other pony related sites, including derpibooru^[2] and the My Little Pony Forums^[3] hosted the face as well.

Also on April 4th, 2015, Deviantart user Dennybutt^[4] posted a fanmade recreation of the original scene (shown below, top left). DeviantArt user Mysticalpha^[5] also created one on April 13th (shown below, top right). As of May 2nd, dennybutt and mysticalpha their creations managed to respectively gather over 3,800 and 800 favorites on DeviantArt. Dennybutt's version was also used as the source material for various advice animal-style image macros on both Deviantart and Derpibooru (shown below, bottom row).
