Origin
On December 17th, 2017, Urban Dictionary[1] user askaboutmiraa posted a definition for "Bussin," writing, "what you would say if something was really good" (shown below).
Spread
Online, the term began seeing use in memes starting with the "Gripping Food With Force" trend in the fall of 2020. As the trend featured multiple examples in which people complimented the food they were gripping, some examples featuring captions saying the food was "bussin"[2][3] (examples shown below).

In March of 2021, the term began seeing wider spread on TikTok when it was used as a way to troll food vlogger Janelle Roehner.[4] Roehner is a Keto blogger known for substituting various common food items with vegetables, particularly bell peppers. On March 3rd, TikTok user rondeucedeleuche stitched one of her videos in which she eats a bell pepper sandwitch with a clip of him asking the question, "Is it bussin?" The clip gained over 4.7 million views (shown below).
This led to various users trolling Roehner with the phrase "Is it bussin?" in her comments and posting videos with the phrase.[5] Others have used a clip posted March 5th by user Chiva Glivens that gained over 4.2 million likes (shown below, left). For example, a March 11th video by @pawn_shop gained over 2.6 million likes (shown below, right).
