Bruh Wanted Boosie Fade But Got This Instead! refers to a series of memes showing a character or person with a bad haircut under an exploitable graphic reading, "Bruh Wanted Boosie Fade But Got This Instead," referring to rapper Boosie Badazz's haircut. The meme is inspired by a December 2021 post by the Instagram rap news page rap.hiphopcentral and became increasingly popular over the course of 2022, gaining viral spread on TikTok in early 2023.

Origin

On December 12th, 2021, Instagram[1] hip-hop news page rap.hiphopcentral posted a video, seemingly reposted from one of raphouse.tv's pages, showing a man getting roasted for his fade, calling the haircut a "Boosie," a reference to rapper Boosie Badazz (shown below). The video includes a banner on top that reads, "Bruh Wanted Boosie Fade But Got This Instead!"

On January 15th, 2022, Instagram[2] user spunchbops posted a meme using the "Bruh Wanted Boosie Fade But Got This Instead!" banner over an image of Patrick Star with a jug on his head, garnering over 5,600 likes in a year (shown below).

Spread

The meme by spunchbops gained viral spread over the following weeks. On February 28th, 2022, it was reposted by Instagram[3] page sh0tpost, garnering over 7,600 views in a year. On March 2nd, Instagram[4] user mememonk.v2 posted a meme using the banner over an image of Klaud, garnering over 7,100 likes in a year (shown below, left), which was reposted by Instagram[5] user aaron.uh on March 6th, garnering over 15,000 likes in the same rough span of time. On March 16th, Instagram[6] user owen_kung posted a version of the meme showing a cat with a bad haircut, garnering over 12,200 likes in a year (shown below, right).

On April 7th, Facebook[7] page Rappers In Peculiar Places posted a version of the meme that gained over 980 reactions and 400 shares in a year. On April 19th, the Facebook[8] page Evil Niqqa Memes 3 posted a version of the meme that gained over 1,000 reactions and 490 shares in 11 months (shown below).

In early 2023, the meme began to spread on TikTok. For example, on February 27th, 2023, TikToker[9] @illegalbugtrader posted a meme using the banner, garnering over 581,000 views in a month (shown below).
