About
Brooklyn Blood Pop Dance refers to a dance trend popular on TikTok in which users sway their hips side-to-side in tune to the song “#BrooklynBloodPop!” by Syko. The trend first became popular in early May 2021, seeing a revival in late June with a similar trend in which one TikToker pretends to hit the other in the testicles, followed by both transitioning to dancing.
Origin
On June 17th, 2020, musical artist Syko[1] released the song "#BrooklynBloodPop!," garnering over 15 million views on YouTube [2] in a year (shown below).
It is unknown who first started the dance trend associated with the song. One of the earliest examples was uploaded to TikTok[3][4] on May 2nd, 2021 by @avani, in which she and a friend sway their hips from side-to-side in tune to the song's beat drop (shown below), garnering over 6.8 million views in a month (shown below, left). She posted a second video performing the dance that day, garnering over 9 million views in the same span of time (shown below, right).
The original sound consisting of "#BrooklynBloodPop!," titled, "this song is brooklyn blood pop omg," comes from an unrelated video with over 10 million views by TikToker[5] @shoxxvo.
Spread
The dance trend spread over the course of the month, resulting in over 1.4 million videos using the sound by June 24th, although not all of these follow the trend. On May 5th and 13th, TikTokers[6][7] @slimthicccsenpai and @kkarrrambaby posted videos doing the dance, garnering over 18.4 million and 34 million views in a month (shown below, left and right).
On May 14th, a compilation of dance videos set to the song was uploaded by YouTuber[8] Salsa Sauce, garnering over 773,000 views in a month (shown below).
The trend also takes place under a number of alternative sounds containing the song, including the official sound[9] by Syko and an untitled sound[10] by TikToker @swagdemons.
The song also inspired a spinoff dance trend in which one TikToker pretends to punch another in the testicles, followed by a smooth transition to dancing by both of them. One of the earliest examples of this was uploaded by TikToker[11] @brookemonk_ on May 27th, garnering over 8.5 million views in under a month (shown below).
This trend took off under the original sound by @swagdemons, resulting in numerous videos following it (examples shown below, left and right).
