About
Scream If You Love X, also known as Brock Lesnar Screaming, refers to a GIF caption format and phrasal template based on a clip of professional wrestler Brock Lesnar screaming. The format pairs the GIF with captions that request that Lesnar scream if he loves a certain thing, such as a particular country. Used since the original Scream If You Love Poland version was shared in May 2022, the format achieved particular virality on Discord and X in the 2020s.
Origin
On April 7th, 2013, the professional wrestling pay-per-view event WrestleMania 29, produced by WWE, aired.[1] During a match between wrestlers Triple H and Brock Lesnar, Lesnar, after throwing Triple H over his shoulder, screamed out at his opponent. The clip has appeared in multiple WWE clip compilations.
For example, on April 5th, 2014, YouTube[2] user MrY2J posted the clip in a compilation titled "The Biggest Brock Lesnar Screams – WWE Funny Scream Compilation" that gained over 1.5 million views in 10 years.
Prior to May 23rd, 2022,[3] an unknown Tenor user paired a GIF of Lesnar screaming with the caption "Scream if you love Poland 🇵🇱" (shown below). The original upload of the GIF has since been removed.[4] On August 18th, 2022, iFunny[5] user ybeyynwqt45606 made the earliest found reupload of the GIF online.
Spread
On May 23rd, 2022, Tenor[6] user Glebu posted the earliest found recaption based on the meme. On August 31st, 2023, Tenor[7] user Apollina recaptioned the GIF, "scream if you love turkey" (shown below).
The format gained more prominence in 2024, as multiple versions of the GIF dedicated to various countries were shared online, primarily on Tenor and X. For example, on January 12th, 2024, Tenor[8] user Aerumora posted a version dedicated to Romania (shown below).
Following the initial spread, GIF caption memes dedicated to other things beyond countries were shared. For example, on May 2nd, 2024, Tenor[9] user Kubeez posted a version of the meme dedicated to the 2024 roguelite card game Balatro.
