Origin
On January 27th, 2019, during the WWE Royal Rumble event, Brock Lesnar faced and defeated Finn Balor in a match for the Universal Championship. He secured his victory by holding Balor in a submission until Balor tapped out (GIF shown below).
Spread
The intense grimace on Lesnar's face as he secured the submission was quickly noticed on social media. Twitter account @TotalDivasEps posted a GIF of the moment, gaining over 1,200 retweets and 2,800 likes (shown below).
Other social media users parodied the moment by using it as a reaction. For example, Twitter user 0N3L0V3 posted it as a reaction image and gained over 670 retweets and 2,700 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user ColonelFancy also made a joke that gained over 600 retweets and 2,000 likes (shown below, right). The jokes were covered by Twitter Moments,[1] Independent,[2] and others.
WWE itself joined in on the parody, creating a Big Enough parody of the moment that gained over 3,200 points on r/squaredcircle.[3]
