About
Bro Visited His Friend refers to a two-panel exploitable webcomic in which one person tells another that they were visiting their friend and the other interrupts with "Bro visited his friend" in a mocking tone. The comic and meme format was widely reposted and inspired jokes about the phrase in late March and April 2024. In April 2024, the format gained recognition as Friendpilled Visitmaxxer following a viral Tumblr post. The format is typically used by replacing the text in the speech bubbles, often repeating what the original person said but adding "bro" at the start or attaching internet slang to the statement for humorous effect.
Origin
On March 28th, 2024, Twitter / X user and webcomic artist @fallenchungus[1] posted a two-panel comic, explaining "I made up this bit for VCs where when someone says something you just repeat what they said verbatim but put 'bro/bro's' at the start of it. The more mundane the action the funnier it is." The tweet gained over 13,000 retweets and 128,000 likes in two weeks (shown below).
Spread
The comic was quickly reposted to other platforms on social media over the following days as people edited the text in the speech bubbles.
For example, on March 28th, 2024, posts on iFunny[2] by user thelolguyhaha and Instagram[3] by user blgmemez received over 13,800 likes and 27,000 likes, respectively, in 12 days. It was also reposted to Reddit's /r/okbuddyretard[4] by Redditor threetree_twenty2O on April 5th, where it gained over 6,300 upvotes in four days, and 4chan's /adv/[5] the same day.
On April 6th, 2024, Twitter user fallenchungus[6] tweeted an update to the comic with the interrupting person saying, "bro got nabbed," voicing their frustration with the comic being widely reposted without credit (shown below). The tweet gained over 200 retweets and 7,300 likes in three days (shown below, left).
In response, Twitter user @mommymoding[7] posted an edit of the comic saying, "Bro said, 'Bro got nabbed,'" gaining over 180 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).
Friendpilled Visitmaxxer
On April 8th, 2024, Tumblr[8] user oldmen-runningtheworld-anewage posted an edit of the comic in which the reply was changed to "friendpilled visitmaxxer," referencing incel slang.
The post was followed by multiple Tumblr users reblogging the post with their own versions of the meme, editing the "bro visited his friend" bubble with references to modern internet slang (examples by users thyrell[8] and pro-prin-prinny[9] shown below, left and right). The thread garnered over 68,300 reblogs and 67,000 likes in two weeks.
On April 16th, 2024, X[10] / Twitter user posted a screenshot of the Tumblr thread, with the post gaining over 12,000 reposts and 71,000 likes and inspiring more versions the following day.
