Bro Thinks He's In An Edit is a catchphrase that's used to caption videos in which the subject seems to believe that they're in a stylized edit of some kind such as a basketball edit, anime edit or a sigma male edit. In the video, they're captured in the midst of imagination, often moving in mock slow-mo to song remixes. They are usually unaware that they're being filmed and mocked through a doorway. The concept started on TikTok in late 2022. One of the main subjects of the light-hearted ridicule was the Ohio Final Boss, also known as @Satoyu0704.

Origin

On August 29th, 2022, TikToker^[1] max_caza29 posted a video in which he was recording his friend playing mini basketball through a doorway. Although the video was most likely staged, TikToker max_caza29's friend is seen moving in mock slow-mo into a dunking motion while listening to a Yeat song. He then celebrates in mock slow-mo as well. TikToker max_caza29 wrote in text overlay, "bro thinks he's in an edit 💀," and gained roughly 96,800 plays and 7,500 likes over the course of five months (shown below).

The phrase regained notoriety in late October 2022 when TikToker satoyu0704, also known as the Ohio Final Boss, started going viral for his TikTok Lives in which English-speaking fans would spam "Only in Ohio" while he pretended to be an anime protagonist by dramatically walking in place to various phonk songs.

On October 28th, 2022, TikToker^[2] yohan.xx posted a screen recording of a then-recent satoyu0704 livestream, writing in text overlay, "Bro thinks hes in an edit 💀," earning roughly 2.9 million plays and 359,500 likes in three months (shown below, left). Also on October 28th, TikToker^[3] he11ok1tty113 posted a screen recording from the same livestream with a similar text overlay, gaining roughly 310,100 plays and 10,500 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

The catchphrase continued to trend in late 2022 and early 2023 as video creators on TikTok began recreating TikToker^[1] max_caza29's original video by walking in on their own friends and recording them through doorways. For instance, on December 1st, 2022, TikToker^[4] jdlis2cool posted a video showing his friend with the caption, "bro thinks hes in a anime edit 💀." Over the course of one month, the video received roughly 29.8 million plays and 5.3 million likes (shown below).
